Southern Region Club of the Finnish Great Dane Organisation
Finnish Great Dane Club was
founded in 1972 and is nowadays the official breed organisation for Great Danes in Finland. There are several regional clubs working with and under the guidance of this main organisation. The common goal for the regional clubs is to activate and bring together
the Great Dane owners in the region as well as sharing information on the breed, arranging several forms of activities including dog trainings, match shows, get together meetings, etc.
You are warmly welcome to
meet the Southern Region club founded in 1994. We are an active regional club with over hundred members spread all over the Southern Finland (ca. 130 members in year 2009). In addition to the regular annual meeting (in February / March) in which
the board of the regional club is selected, we arrange several events for our members through out the year. In winter the dog trainings are usually on hold, however the members are offered specialist lectures on various subjects e.g. the theory of different
dog trainings, behaviour and first aid to our furry friends. The beautiful winter days offer though a wonderful settings for walks in the cities, parks, forrests and e.g. on sea ice.
They are often arranged
ad hoc and places and times are agreed in a Great Dane discussion forum.
In spring the get together walks continue and the already traditional “Kaivarin
kävely” in Kaivopuisto Park in Helsinki takes place sometime in June or July each year.
Also other activities start in the spring and various dog trainings are arranged
then and continue after a summer break in autumn. The trainings have so far contained various levels of obedience training from puppy cources to Great Danes ready to compete in obedience tests, flyball courses, rescue dog trainings (debris search, tracking
and open air search) and also a water rescue course in planned to be held in the near future. Match shows and show handling trainings are a part of our activities throughout the year. Every idea of a new form of having fun with our beloved Great Danes is always
We publish an own little magazine twice a year available to the regional club’s members. In addition, a news letter is sent to our members a few times a year
and to each member willing to have email notifications, also announcements of the actual events are sent. All the information can also be found here in our homepages.
